KL Rahul continued his strong run in Test cricket by scoring his 12th Test hundred against Afghanistan in the only Test in Mullanpur. He reached the milestone off 164 balls, hitting 11 boundaries during his innings. He also had a bit of luck go his way during the knock.

This century adds to his excellent form in 2025, where he has scored 813 runs in 10 matches, strengthening his position at the top of the order. It was also his first match as India’s new vice-captain, though he did not start in the best way.

Afghanistan bowled tight lines early on, especially outside the off stump, making Rahul work hard for his runs. He took some time to settle and got off the mark with a boundary. His innings didn’t flow freely at the start, and he got a lucky escape in the 11th over.

Facing Ziaur Rahman Sharifi, Rahul edged a cut shot straight to the wicketkeeper. Afghanistan appealed and celebrated, but he stayed at the crease as the umpire was unsure. There was no review taken, and replays later showed there was a clear edge. That moment proved to be a turning point.

After that, Rahul began to look more confident. He reached his fifty after lunch, hitting a couple of boundaries to get there. He then batted more calmly, rotating the strike and letting Sai Sudharsan take on the scoring.

Between the 33rd and 48th overs, he hit just one boundary, focusing on building the innings and supporting Shubman Gill at the other end. He later moved to 97 and reached his hundred with a single and a double.

However, his innings ended shortly after as he attempted an aggressive shot and was caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
