SMAT 2025: Abhishek Sharma had scripted history on Saturday as he had become the first Indian cricketer to have hit 100 sixes in a single year in the shortest format. He achieved this milestone in the Syed Mushtaq Ali match against Services in Hyderabad. Hailing from Amritsar, Abhishek, who will be joining the national team soon for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, had played 34 balls, in which he had hit 8 fours and 3 sixes and had scored 62 runs. His second six had become his 100th in this format this year.
He has smashed 47 sixes after playing in 17 T20Is till now and has hit 28 sixes after playing in 14 IPL matches for SRH this year. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, Abhishek has smashed 26 sixes after playing in six matches. He has hit 101 sixes after playing in 37 T20Is till now.
Abhishek was the only one who had earlier held the record of smashing the most sixes in a single year in this format as an Indian batter.
Last year, he hit 87 sixes after playing in 39 T20I matches, and Suryakumar Yadav smashed 85 sixes after playing in 41 T20I matches in 2022.

West Indies star wicketkeeper batter Nicholas Pooran has the record of smashing the most sixes in a single year in this format. Last year, he had played in 76 matches for teams like Durban’s Super Giants, Lucknow Super Giants, MI Emirates, MI New York, Northern Superchargers (Men), Rangpur Riders, Trinbago Knight Riders, and West Indies, where he had hit 170 sixes.
Chris Gayle had become the first player to have 100 sixes in a single year in the shortest format. He achieved this milestone in 2011. He had played in 31 matches for teams like Matabeleland Tuskers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sydney Thunder, and Western Australia, where he had smashed 101 sixes.

This year, Austria's Karanbir Singh has the record of smashing the most sixes in the shortest format. He has smashed 122 sixes after playing in 32 T20I matches till now.

If Abhishek can smash three more sixes in the T20I series against South Africa, then he will be the second batter from a Test-playing team to have smashed at least 50 sixes in this format in a single year.
