Stylish batter Suryakumar Yadav has responded after being left out of India’s T20I squad for the England and Ireland tour. He was replaced by Shreyas Iyer, even though he recently led India to the 2026 T20 World Cup final.

He shared the BCCI’s squad announcement post on Instagram and kept his message short. He wrote: “Wishing this highly skilled group all the best for challenges ahead” along with emojis, including the Indian flag and a nazar amulet.

Why Suryakumar lost his place from India's T20I squad

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav not only lost his place but was also dropped from the squad. While attending media during the squad announcement, Agarkar revealed that Suryakumar Yadav’s dip in form over the past couple of seasons played a role in the decision to remove him as T20I captain, but it was not the only factor.

He explained that after every World Cup, the team management re-evaluates the direction they want to take going forward.

“With regards to Surya, obviously it's a tough one having just won the (T20) World Cup. But as it happens after most World Cups, we try and reassess what your best way forward is,” Agarkar said.

He added that both form and the long-term plan for the next World Cup cycle were considered.

“(It was due to) partly his own form but also looking at the next two-year cycle, or a little bit more than two years now till the next World Cup, we thought this was the best way forward and like I said, Shreyas is a very deserving captain."

Agarkar also said the decision was not easy given Suryakumar’s success as captain.

"We deliberated on it a lot, especially when someone has led you to a World Cup win. It's not the easiest sort of discussion to have, but I don't necessarily think... at some stage, we were going to look at it. Now, whether IPL form dictated it; I'm not so sure that's the case. There were always conversations around it," he added.
