As the national capital bids farewell to the outgoing year and prepares to welcome the new one, Delhi is gripped by a celebratory mood that began on Christmas Eve. To ensure safe and disruption-free celebrations, the Delhi Police has implemented a massive security apparatus, deploying more than 20,000 security personnel across the city.

Security Blanket Across The Capital

Traffic police and paramilitary staff have been deployed to manage vehicular movement and maintain law and order. Surveillance has been heightened since Wednesday evening, with a specific focus on curbing drunk driving and stunt biking. A special checking campaign is currently underway in all major markets and sensitive locations, including Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, and India Gate.

Following orders from the Delhi Police Commissioner, security at entry points from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan has been fortified with additional pickets, barricades, and Quick Response Teams (QRTs). Deputy Commissioners of all Delhi districts have personally patrolled their respective areas to assess security measures.

District-Level Vigilance

West Delhi: Vehicles were searched at barricades set up at Vegas Mall (Sector-14), IGI Airport Terminals 1, 2, and 3, Dwarka Mod, and Rajouri Garden. Vigilance was also strengthened in Tilak Nagar and Business Park.

East Delhi: Security was ramped up around Cross River Mall, V3S Mall, and Mayur Vihar Church, with increased patrolling in Dilshad Garden.

North And Outer Delhi: Police in Karnal Bypass Road, Rohini, Outer, Outer-North, and North-West districts have been preparing for days. Vigilance has been increased at the Singhu, Tikri, and Auchandi borders using barricades and additional CCTV cameras.

Rohini District: Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan stated that meetings are being held with social organizations, RWAs, and MWAs, and tenant verifications are being conducted. Patrols have been intensified in Sultanpuri, Mangolpuri, Badli, Narela, Bawana, Avantika, and Rani Bagh.

Alert Against Terror Threats

In light of a past terrorist attack outside the Red Fort during the New Year and Christmas period, police remain on high alert around the monument. PCR patrols have been increased, and vehicle checks are being conducted rigorously. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed all Station House Officers to patrol with their teams. Security deployment has been specifically enhanced at high-value targets including the Red Fort, Sadar Bazar, Jama Masjid, and both New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations.

Festive Rush And Traffic Snarls

On Thursday, residents stepped out in large numbers to enjoy the Christmas holiday, visiting scenic spots and malls. Despite the holiday, the Delhi Metro saw significant ridership. Famous destinations like Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Sunder Nursery, Jama Masjid and Humayun's Tomb drew large crowds.

Malls hosted carnivals where Santa Claus was seen distributing toffees and taking selfies with children. However, the heavy footfall led to traffic congestion in several areas. A traffic jam was reported in front of the Nexus Select CITYWALK mall in Saket, and congestion was also observed around the Kalka Mandir temple.
