The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has declared September 11, 2026 (Friday), as a holiday for all offices and schools under its jurisdiction. The decision has been taken in view of the BRICS Summit and arrangements connected with the event.
According to the circular issued by the Directorate of Education on September 5, the holiday will apply to government schools, government-aided schools and unaided recognised private schools under the Directorate. All concerned schools and offices have been directed to observe the holiday on September 11.

Delhi Schools to Remain Closed on September 11
As per the official order, all schools under the Directorate of Education will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026. The holiday applies to government, government-aided and unaided recognised private schools.
The Directorate issued the order after receiving a notification from the General Administration Department (GAD), Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The notification cited the BRICS Summit and related arrangements as the reason for declaring the holiday.
Why Are Delhi Schools Closed on September 11?
The holiday has been declared due to arrangements related to the BRICS Summit. The Delhi Directorate of Education stated that all offices and schools under its jurisdiction must observe the holiday on September 11.
The decision is intended to facilitate arrangements connected with the summit and ensure compliance with the directions issued by the Delhi government.
Delhi School Holiday 2026: Who Will Observe the Holiday?
The September 11 holiday will apply to the following institutions under the Directorate of Education:
- Government schools
- Government-aided schools
- Unaided recognised private schools
- Offices under the Directorate of Education
The Directorate has instructed all Regional Directors of Education, Deputy Directors of Education and Heads of Schools to ensure compliance with the order.

Delhi Education Department Issues Official Circular
The Directorate of Education issued the circular on September 5, 2026, under the approval of the Director (Education). The order was circulated among senior education officials and Heads of Schools for necessary action.
The Computer Cell of the Directorate has also been instructed to upload the circular on the department's website. Students, parents and teachers are advised to check their respective school's communication channels for any additional instructions regarding classes, examinations or other academic activities.
