Menstrual Leave: The Dharmashastra National Law University, located in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district, has implemented menstrual leave for female students starting from the ongoing 5-month semester that commenced last month, an official said on Friday.
Dr. Shailesh N Hadli, in charge Vice-Chancellor, informed news agency PTI that there had been an enduring request from students, including the Student Bar Association, for menstrual leave since the previous year.
“In the wake of it, we, including our Students Welfare Dean, decided to give the (menstrual) leave from this semester. These offs will part of six leaves given to students to take part in cultural and other important events each semester. Female students can avail these leaves,” he said.

He further mentioned that this initiative is a step towards the betterment and welfare of the students.
Earlier this year in February, the Supreme Court declined to consider a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) that sought directions to all states to establish regulations for menstrual pain leave for female students and working women. The court noted that this matter falls within the jurisdiction of government policy.
