Jagran Correspondent, Solan | In a dramatic incident, Dr Harminder Singh Baweja, the Vice Chancellor of Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Horticulture and Forestry University, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, locked himself in the office on Monday after faculty members, HODs and some other employees attempted to meet him.
VC Calls DGP Amid Ruckus
They created a ruckus outside the room of the Vice Chancellor over the denial of their meeting. As tensions escalated, the VC closed the office doors, citing security reasons and called the DGP. The chaos outside the VC office lasted about an hour and settled after police intervention.
What Is The Issue?
Officials said the staff arrived at the Vice-Chancellor's office to meet him regarding their demands and some concerns over notices issued by the VC office. However, the personal security personnel of the VC did not allow them to enter his office, prompting visitors to stage a protest.
Frustrated by the Vice-Chancellor's action, the employees began a sit-in protest outside his office. They alleged that the VC had issued several notices to non-employees during the Governor's program at the university. These notices caused anger among the staff. The employees wanted to meet the Vice-Chancellor directly to present their side of the story in the entire matter; he refused to meet them.
Faculty members stated that they had been trying to meet with the Vice-Chancellor for a long time to raise their issues. They claimed their concerns and demands were not being addressed.
What Vice Chancellor Said On The Issue
Reacting to the incident, Vice-Chancellor Baweja stated that a group of people started creating a ruckus outside his office around 10.30 am after he decided to stay in the office.
"The security guard advised me to remain inside. I alerted the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and the Solan Superintendent of Police. Police have arrived and initiated an investigation. Anyone wishing to meet with the Vice-Chancellor must follow the established protocol. I was uncertain of their true intentions," he said.
