Schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres will remain closed on September 26 in Champawat, Bageshwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand. The holiday has been declared in view of the India Meteorological Department’s red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.
As per the weather forecast by the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in parts of Uttarakhand on 26-27 September. The districts covered under the alert are Pithoragarh, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag and Champawat.
Schools, Anganwadi Centres To Remain Closed
Schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres in the five districts, Champawat, Bageshwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh, will remain closed on September 26.
The shutdown is undertaken as the authorities gear up for the rough weather lined up by the Meteorological Department. In Pithoragarh, Additional District Magistrate Yogendra Singh interacted with the officials concerned in a video conference to review preparations and precautions.
Officials were instructed to ensure necessary safety measures at schools and to immediately remove obstructions from drains and culverts in urban and town areas.
Red Alert For Heavy Rain
The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning at some places, along with intense to very intense spells of rain, in the affected districts on September 26 and 27.
The Pithoragarh administration has also directed officials to remain alert and ensure immediate information sharing and action in case of any disaster or accident. Police stations and outposts have been asked to remain on alert with disaster-related equipment and wireless sets.
Authorities have further instructed road agencies to clear roads promptly in case of blockages and asked officials to ensure food and medical assistance for people who may become stranded.
The administration has appealed to the public to take the weather warning seriously and avoid unnecessary travel and movement in risky areas.
