UPSC CSE Exam: Candidates would no longer be eligible to advertise for coaching institutes after cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE). Candidates who topped or cleared the Union Public Service Commission's CSE exam will be required to terminate their coaching agreement after signing the joining letter as per the media reports.

According to media reports, the use of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam toppers by these institutions is considered misleading ads and unfair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, according to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).

Moreover, in order to enforce the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules of 1964, the CCPA has written to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). These prohibit any government employee from working in a trade, starting a business, or taking on new jobs. Notably, DoPT is the controlling authority of all officers chosen through a variety of UPSC-conducted competitive exams. The media report further states that CCPA has also sent notices to 20 IAS coaching institutes for deceptive advertisements.

The UPSC administers civil service examinations in three stages. The first stage consists of a preliminary exam and the second stage is the mains, which are a set of written exams. The final stage comprises an interview and personality test.
