Uttarakhand School Holiday: Amid an active monsoon spell across Uttarakhand, the district administrations of Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal have ordered all schools and anganwadi centres to remain shut on Friday, July 10, 2026, following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The decision, prioritising student safety, applies to all government, semi-government and private schools running classes up to Class 12, along with every anganwadi centre in both districts.
The order comes after IMD Dehradun's forecast, issued on July 9, warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at several places in Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal on July 10. The forecast also flagged the risk of lightning strikes and a sudden rise in water levels in rivers, streams and nullahs across the region.
IMD Warns of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall:
According to the orders issued by the district administrations, the IMD's July 9 forecast pointed to heavy to very heavy rain with thunder and lightning at multiple locations in Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal on July 10. Authorities also warned of possible lightning strikes and sudden flooding in rivers, streams and seasonal drains in the region.
All Schools From Class 1 to 12 to Remain Shut:
As per the official orders, all government, semi-government and private schools running classes from 1 to 12 in the two districts will remain closed on July 10. Alongside this, a one-day holiday has also been declared for all anganwadi centres in the affected districts.
Decision Taken in View of Student Safety:
The district administration clarified that the decision has been taken keeping student safety as the top priority, in view of the IMD's orange alert and the possibility of weather-related disruptions. All educational institutions concerned have been directed to strictly comply with the order.
Administration's Appeal to Residents:
The administration has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas, and follow the latest advisories issued by the weather department and local authorities.
