School Holiday Tomorrow: The Almora district administration has declared a one-day holiday on September 3, 2026, in all government, non-government and private schools from Classes 1 to 12. The order comes after the India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall in the district.
The closure has also been extended to Shoban Singh Jeena University, government colleges, government Industrial Training Institutes, government polytechnic institutes and all Anganwadi centres across Almora district. Authorities said the decision has been taken primarily to ensure the safety of students and children amid possible rain-related incidents.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast Triggers School Closure
According to the order issued by the District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Almora, heavy rainfall is expected in the district on September 3.
The administration noted that ongoing rainfall has already created the possibility of several weather-related hazards, including landslides, flash floods, boulder falls, waterlogging and road closures.
Considering the possibility of untoward incidents and the safety of students, the district administration invoked powers under Section 30(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to declare the holiday.
Which Educational Institutions Will Remain Closed?
The September 3 closure applies to a wide range of educational institutions across Almora district.
These include:
- Government, non-government and private schools from Classes 1 to 12
- Shoban Singh Jeena University, Almora
- Government colleges
- Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)
- Government Polytechnic Institutes
- All Anganwadi centres
The administration has directed the concerned officials and heads of institutions to ensure strict compliance with the order.
Officials Directed To Ensure Compliance
The Vice-Chancellor of Shoban Singh Jeena University, principals of government colleges, the Chief Education Officer, District Programme Officer and principals of government ITIs and polytechnic institutes have been instructed to implement the closure order.
The administration has also circulated the order to senior police and district officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and the District Disaster Management Officer.
The District Information Officer has been asked to ensure dissemination of the information through daily newspapers so that parents, students and other stakeholders are aware of the holiday.

Students and parents in Almora should note that September 3, 2026, will be a holiday for the institutions covered under the district administration's order.
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure because of the heavy rainfall forecast and the potential for landslides, flash floods, boulder falls, waterlogging and disruption of roads.
The order was issued on September 2, 2026, by Anshul Singh, District Officer/Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Almora. Authorities have warned that any deviation from the order could invite action against the concerned person.
