Yearender 2024 Education Sector:  The year 2024 witnessed the launch and expansion of several impactful educational initiatives aimed at revolutionising learning and empowering students across India. From providing financial support for meritorious students to offering industry-specific skill development opportunities, these programs align with the government’s vision for inclusive and quality education. Here’s a closer look at the major schemes and their highlights.

PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme: Financial Aid For Meritorious Students

The PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme, launched to support deserving students, provides education loans for those admitted to the top 860 institutions nationwide. With a Rs 3,600 crore budget allocated from 2024-25 to 2030-31, this initiative aims to benefit over 22 lakh students annually, supporting an additional 7 lakh learners. The scheme operates through a fully digital platform, ensuring transparency and accessibility.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Skill Development for Youth

The PM Internship Scheme offers youth opportunities to intern in India’s top 500 companies, bridging the gap between education and real-world experience. The program targets providing one crore internships over five years, helping youth gain valuable skills and work exposure.

One Nation, One Subscription: Access to Research

Starting January 1, 2024, 1.8 crore students in state-funded higher education institutions, including universities and IITs, will gain access to global research papers. This initiative democratises access to knowledge, boosting academic and research capabilities.

PM SHRI Schools: Model Institutions for Holistic Learning

Aligned with NEP 2020, the PM SHRI initiative aims to establish 14,500 model schools nationwide. These institutions, managed by central and state governments, will emphasise holistic, inclusive education, fostering an environment conducive to well-rounded learning.

SWAYAM Plus: Revolutionising Higher Education

Launched on February 27, SWAYAM Plus introduces an innovative credit recognition system for industry-relevant courses. The scheme focuses on skill development, employability, and forging stronger industry partnerships to bridge the education-employment gap.

PRERNA: Experiential Learning for School Students

The PRERNA initiative, piloted from January 15 to February 17 in Vadnagar, Gujarat, is a week-long residential program for Class IX to XII students. It offers experiential learning through state-of-the-art technology, inspiring young minds and fostering creativity.
