Located within the Rajnandgaon district in the central region of Chhattisgarh, it is classified as a semi-urban constituency.

The constituency comprises a total of 188,891 registered voters, consisting of 94,714 male voters and 94,173 female voters. In the upcoming Chhattisgarh elections this year, the state is gearing up for a fierce political contest between the incumbent ruling party, the Congress, and its chief rival, the BJP. The BJP is relying on the substantial popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concept of a "double-engine government," a phrase frequently emphasised by the party in past state Assembly election campaigns. In contrast, the Congress is giving significant prominence to the issue of corruption in the run-up to the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023.

Dongargaon Assembly Election 2023:

The BJP unveiled its initial roster of 21 candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections on August 17. However, the party has not yet revealed its candidate for the Dongargaon constituency. Simultaneously, the Congress party is currently in the process of unveiling its list of candidates for the Chhattisgarh elections.

Arun Sao, the Chhattisgarh BJP president, expressed confidence in the party's prospects in the upcoming assembly elections, stating that, "In the last five years, Bhupesh Baghel-led government has turned Chhattisgarh into a hub of crime and corruption. It cheated and looted all sections of the state and the development work is at a standstill. The people of Chhattisgarh have understood that the future of the state is safe in the hands of the BJP... Definitely, the lotus will bloom in Chhattisgarh in November."
