In a big jolt to the Congress Party, their Lok Sabha Election candidate from the Indore constituency, Akshay Kanti, on Monday withdrew his nomination and joined the BJP. Senior Madhya Pradesh BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya confirmed Kanti’s entry into the saffron party by sharing a picture with him. Indore will vote in the fourth phase on May 13. The last date for filing nominations was April 25, while the last date for withdrawing candidature is today. 'Welcome to the party,' Vijayvargiya posted on X.
Congress extended its support to independent candidate Moti Singh Patel but it faced another major blow after his nomination was rejected by the poll body. With this BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani is likely to win the Indore Lok Sabha seat unopposed.

Surat Debacle And BJP’s Victory:
This came days after the BJP won the Surat Lok Sabha seat even without voting after the nomination paper of its candidate was rejected. A high-voltage drama erupted in Gujarat’s Surat seat after the BJP raised objection over the nomination form of Congress’ Nilesh Kumbhani. During a hearing, Kumbhani’s nomination was declared invalid, leaving only the BJP and BSP candidates in the poll fray as seven other candidates had already opted out of the high-stakes contest.
Moreover, BSP candidate Pyarelal also withdrew his nomination when the EC window to draw out of the contest opened. BJP’s Mukesh Dalal thus became the first candidate to win the Lok Sabha election much before the declaration of poll results on June 4.
BJP Gets Walkover In Khajuraho:
In the seat-sharing arrangement of the INDIA bloc, the Khajuraho seat was given to the Samajwadi Party but the nomination of the Akhilesh-led faction leader was cancelled. However, the INDIA bloc extended its support to All India Forward Bloc leader and former IAS officer RB Prajapati. He will be contesting against BJP state chief V D Sharma.
