KARNATAKA Assembly Election 2023: The counting of votes for the Shahapur Assembly constituency is underway. As per the Election Commission of India's official trend, Congress' Sharanabasappa Darshanapur is leading with 22,289 votes against BJP's Ameenraddi Patil and JD(S) candidate.
Shahapur Assembly constituency is one of the 224 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Karnataka. It comes under the Yadgir district and is a segment of the Raichur Lok Sabha seat. In 2019, the Raichur Lok Sabha seat was won by Raja Amareshwara Naik, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate against B V Naik of Congress.

As far as the Shahapur constituency is concerned, Congress has its dominance in this seat. This year, Shahapur saw a close battle between Congress and BJP. The election on the Shahapur constituency along with 223-member Legislative Assembly in Karnataka was held on May 10 in a single phase. A total of 2,613 candidates are in the poll fray for the state election. Out of 2,613 candidates in the poll fray, 2,427 are male, 184 females and 2 others.
Shahapur Assembly Election 2023:
This year, the BJP fielded Ameenraddi Patil, and the Congress has given the ticket to Sharanabasappa Gouda Darshanapur, who currently represents the Shahapur Assembly constituency and looking for another term in the Karnataka Assembly Election 2023. While JD(S) has chosen Gurulingappa Gowda.
Shahapur Assembly Election 2018:
In the 2018 Assembly election, Congress candidate Gouda won the seat against BJP’s candidate Guru Patil Sirwal with a margin of 30974 votes (19.98 per cent of total valid votes). Gouda bagged 78,642 votes and Sirwal got 47,668 votes. While Ameenraddi Yalagi, JD(S) candidate was the third runner who received 23,329 votes.
Out of 2,25,803 registered electors, 1,56,577 voters turned out which included general voters, NRI voters, and service voters in this assembly constituency in 2018. Among the general voters, 79,700 were male and 75,733 were female. According to the Election Commission of India, the constituency witnessed a 69.34 per cent voter turnout.
