South superstar Ajith Kumar turns 52 today. The actor, who is known for delivering power-packed performances, is one of the most popular and highest paid actors in the Tamil film industry and has made a mark for himself over the years.

Ajith Kumar started his career in 1990 with the Tamil film En Veedu En Kanavar. Over the years, the actor has starred in 61 films and has won several awards including four Vijay Awards, three Cinema Express Awards, three Filmfare Awards South and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

Aasai

The Tamil language thriller film stars Ajith Kumar in the lead role and revolves around a  man who kills his wife when she learns that he lusts after her sister. He then begins to make his moves for his sister-in-law. When he tries to sabotage the girl's marriage, her fiance gets suspicious.

The film was a big success and was also remade in Hindi as Pyaar Zindagi Hai.

Vaalee

The film starred Ajith Kumar in double roles and narrated the story of a modern-day adaptation of the legend of Vali from the Ramayana. Ajith Kumar played Shiva and Deva, two identical twin brothers, with Deva being deaf-mute. When Shiva marries Priya, Deva becomes obsessed with and lusts for her. The film was a big hit and ran in theatres for over 270 days.

Dheena

Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, Dheena revolved around its titular character, who works for his brother Adhikesavan, a gangster, and is very close to him. However, things turn sour between them after a misunderstanding leads to the death of their sister.

Veeram

Recently remade by Salman Khan as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Veeram was a big commercial hit and was remade in Telugu and Kannada too. The plot of the film revolves around a man who lives with his four brothers. Though he uses violence to settle disputes, he decides to mend his ways for his lover's sake. Pandemonium ensues when he learns of a gang of rowdies following his lover's family.

Nerkonda Paarvai 

Marking the beginning of Ajith Kumar and H. Vinoth’s collaboration, Nerkonda Paarvai was the inspiration behind Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink. The film revolves around a veteran lawyer who comes out of retirement to help three women who have been falsely implicated in a criminal case. As he represents them in court, he faces powerful foes and patriarchal attitudes.
