In Bollywood, despite the money and fame, there has always been intense competition for opportunities between actors. Whether you're a newcomer, a moderately successful actor, or a well-established one with a secure position in the industry, everyone faces the same rules - stay vigilant and avoid the risk of falling behind.
It is a known fact that actresses competing for the same position in Bollywood cannot be friends. They also often have power struggles when working together in the same movie. Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, who are neighbours now and have also starred together in two films Zero and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, initially did not like each other after a catfight they once had over a makeup man.
Anushka, who was discovered by Yash Raj Films, and Katrina, who was the production house's favourite back then, engaged in a power struggle and had started a new trend of catfights in the industry. In a way to prove their dominance, they had involved their respective makeup artist in the conflict.
When YRF's Mere Brother Ki Dulhann was being filmed, Katrina Kaif created a lot of stir within the production house. This was after she found out that her makeup artist was scheduled to travel to London for a two-day event with Anushka Sharma. Katrina, who still had patch-up shots to complete for her movie, refused to allow her makeup artist to leave the country. She wanted him to stay and make her look good, instead of accompanying Anushka.
A 2011 TOI reported quoted a source as saying, "Subhash, the makeup artist has been working with Katrina since she did Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya and the cameo in RGV's Sarkar. Of late, Subhash has also started working with Anushka Sharma.
"Since Katrina hadn't hired him full time, it is the general thing to do among makeup artists to take up other assignments. Subhash had informed Katrina about his trip to London, 15 days back. He had told her that he was supposed to leave the country on the 8th of August with Anushka for a two-day event.
"However, Katrina on Sunday refused to let Subhash go for the assignment since she had some urgent patchwork shoot to finish on Monday.
Subhash informed Katrina and her manager Sandhya that he wouldn't be able to cancel his trip to London since he had already got the visa and the tickets in place. But Katrina just wouldn't let go of him. In fact, she called in the higher authorities.
Katrina had reportedly expressed her concern to Yash Raj Films as she was filming for the movie Mere Brother Ki Dulhann and wanted her makeup artist to stay. She had explained that she wouldn't be able to finish filming the remaining song if her makeup artist, Subhash, went with Anushka to London. "When Aditya Chopra learnt about it, he called up Anushka and asked her not to take the makeup artist Subhash along with her," the source added.
However, the patch work shoot that caused the conflict was eventually cancelled, and the makeup artist Subhash lost his opportunity to go to London as well. The source added that Anushka was disappointed about having to travel to London without a makeup artist.
Nonetheless, the two actors are close friends now. In fact, Anushka, during a recent interview had revealed that given their close bond, Katrina had extended a dinner invitation for her and her husband Virat.
During an interview with Grazia India, Anushka had discussed how she received an invitation for dinner from Katrina Kaif and her husband Vicky Kaushal. She further elaborated on their early lifestyle habits and how it doesn't coincide with their friends.
Sharma revealed, "Katrina and Vicky have invited us to their home, but we eat dinner at 6 and we sleep at 9:30. So I said [to Katrina Kaif], for you, we’ll eat at 7-7:30 but we have to leave soon. So she's like okay, you’ll have dinner and Vicky and I will have snacks."
