'Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer', written by R Ramanand, is set to be released in two parts. The film narrates the tale of a 9th-century Christian priest, Kadamattathu Kathanar, who possesses magical powers. Jayasurya will be seen in the titular role, while Anushka will portray Kalliyankattu Neeli, described as a bloodthirsty ghost with divine beauty. The first part of the film is expected to hit screens this year, with plans for dubbing it in multiple languages including English, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and others.

Anushka Shetty, born in Mangalore, Karnataka, and belonging to a Tulu-speaking family, interestingly has not appeared in a Kannada film yet. She made her debut in 2005 with Puri Jagannadh's heist film 'Super' and rose to fame in Telugu cinema with movies like 'Vikramarkudu', 'Arundhati', and 'Vedam'.

Since then, she has been selective about her projects, appearing in films like 'Bhagamathie' and 'Nishbdham', and making a cameo in Chiranjeevi's 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy'. Her most recent film is the 2023 romantic comedy 'Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty' alongside Naveen Polishetty.
