BigB in his career has given a lot of blockbusters, and at 77-years of age, where most of his co-stars were barely seen on the screen, he is still the biggest competition for a bunch of Bollywood actors. Amitabh Bachchan is currently hosting the 11th season of his popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), and the show has been in the headlines since its start. Three contestants till now have managed to win Rs 1 crore on the show, but the viewers are still waiting for the one who will crack the jackpot question to win whopping Rs 7 crore prize money.
While the show stays strong on the TRP charts, it garnered some limelight for some other reasons, sparking a controversy, which led to the netizens making #BoycottKBC, a top trend on the social media.
In Thursday’s episode, while moving further in the game, Amitabh asked the contestant a question about Indian history. The question was, “Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?” The four options were, Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and Shivaji.

This is painful.... and shameful too. This is what we are lacking, Chatrapati Shivaji did so much and we cant even respect his work , what coming generation going to learn from this? pic.twitter.com/ZWUIkqypzA pic.twitter.com/3vi1XPu1CI
Soon after the question appeared on TV, it enraged some people hurting their sentiments. The netizens filled Twitter with angry tweets targeting the show and the host Amitabh, though it was obvious that BigB does not have a role in deciding the questions, but he has to face the wrath for being the face of the show.

The netizens criticised the makers of the show for referring the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb as ‘Samrat’ and calling the historical ruler of Maratha just by his name ‘Shivaji’. The netizens even asked the makers and the host to render an apology for not using an obeisance before mentioning the Maratha ruler’s name in the list of options. They feel that this was a sign of disrespect towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday’s KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11 pic.twitter.com/FLtSAt9HuN

Noting the #BoycottKBC trend, the channel issued an apology for the mistake through their official Twitter handle, which reads, "There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday’s KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers has carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11”.
