Chhaya Kadam, who recently captivated audiences with her performances in 'Madgaon Express' and 'Laapataa Ladies,' made her debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in a profoundly emotional and symbolic manner. Wearing her late mother's cherished saree and nose ring, Chhaya graced the red carpet at the French Riviera with elegance and reverence, capturing the attention of global media. She attended the festival for the screening of her film 'All We Imagine As Light,' directed by Payal Kapadia. This film marks a significant milestone as the first Indian film in 30 years to be selected for Cannes' prestigious Palme d'Or competition section, with the last being 'Swaham' in 1994.
Chhaya Kadam shared her Cannes Film Festival look on Instagram, showcasing her first-day outfit at the French Riviera. She opted for a cream saree paired with a purple blouse. The actress completed her look with a traditional nose ring, a bun adorned with white flowers. In her Instagram caption, she shared a heartfelt sentiment, revealing that she had always dreamt of taking her mother on a flight. Though she couldn't fulfill this dream while her mother was alive, she metaphorically achieved it by wearing her mother's saree and Maharashtrian nath (nose ring) at Cannes.
Sharing the post, Chhaya wrote, "My dream of taking you on a flight remained unfulfilled....but today I am content that I brought your saree and nose ring to the Cannes Film Festival by flight. Still, Mom! I wish you were here today. To see all this. Love you, Mom, and miss you a lot."

Meanwhile, Chhaya represented the Indian film 'All We Imagine As Light,' directed by Payal Kapadia, in the prestigious Palme d'Or competition. This Indo-French production marks a significant milestone as the first Indian entry to compete in the main category at Cannes in three decades. The film tells the compelling story of a nurse named Prabha, portrayed by Chhaya, whose life takes an unexpected turn after receiving a gift from her estranged husband, leading to profound introspection and transformation. The Cannes Film Festival is set to conclude on May 25th, 2024.
