Kim Taehyung, best known by his stage name V is one of the most well-known South Korean singers. Signed to Big Hit Entertainment, he is a member of the boy band BTS, which is quite well-known throughout the world. BTS' V's talent has earned him enormous acclaim and admiration on a global scale. But it wasn't always this glamorous.

Kim Taehyung (BTS V) Grew Up Poor

BTS' V, the oldest of three siblings, was born in the Seo District of Daegu, South Korea, on December 30, 1995, and grew up in Geochang County. Did you know Kim Taehyung comes from a poor background? He grew up in Daegu, South Korea, in a farming family.

In elementary school, Kim Taehyung developed a passion for music, and in middle school, with his father's encouragement, he began taking saxophone lessons to take his musical career seriously.

BTS' V had gone to a Big Hit Entertainment audition with a friend, not planning to try out himself. However, he was encouraged to try out by an executive who saw his potential. V immediately sought his parents' approval before taking the risk, ultimately landing his job as a trainee.

In fact, BTS' V's agency kept him a secret from fans before his debut. Following this, he experienced loneliness and uncertainty in life. He did, however, make his official BTS debut on Mnet's M Countdown on June 13, 2013. He started contributing significantly to the group's music as their career took off, co-writing and producing songs including 'Hold Me Tight' and 'Fun Boyz.'

Kim Taehyung discussed the challenges he encountered in 2018 on Suchwita. He disclosed that he was so tired of BTS's rigorous schedule that he considered harming himself to relax and find solace. 

"I was totally drained. I was so exhausted. I thought so much about taking one day off. I was so tired I wanted one day when I could do nothing. In 2018 after we shot MV for Fake Love I was so exhausted that I asked that like 'Since tomorrow we only have dance practice, would it be okay if we took a day off?' But we were preparing for our comeback and it was an important dance practice, so we couldn’t rest," he said.

Kim added, "So I was like 'So I guess we can't rest' and all this negativity piled up inside me. I didn't think I could do anything in that state so I kept thinking of ways I could rest. I even thought I should get hurt. If I get hurt, would I be able to rest? So, I thought I should get hurt. But now I want to change that me of the past."

Kim Taehyung's Birthday

BTS' V's birthday turned a year older on December 30th, 2024. The entire army prepared to commemorate the momentous occasion. His fans from throughout the world especially took the initiative to light up the streets close to his military base with a unique project. The city had seen over 70 birthday banners so far, each with a heartfelt greeting from the supporters.

Several international and Korean fan communities have coordinated the special projects. BTS V UNION and V INSIDE fanbases have set up over 50 streetlight banners, while NUNA V and KTH supporters have adorned 20 more tarpaulins.
