Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated movie GOAT was released in theatres today on September 5. The film has been gaining praise from the audience and critics. It is set to witness a blockbuster opening at the box office. As per reports, GOAT has grossed over Rs 24.5 crore from its advance bookings on Day 1 in India. From The Tamil 2D shows, makers earned around Rs 22.83 crore and Tamil IMAX 2D screenings earned around Rs 30 lakh. As per Sacnilk, the Hindi ad Telugu 2D shows earned Rs 85.66 lakh and Rs 50.52 lakh respectively in India.
The reports suggest that the Tamil movie earned Rs 50 crore from its advance booking on the day prior to its release. The total advance booking of the film is around Rs 60-70 crore at the box office. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, GOAT is likely to earn Rs Rs 100 crore worldwide on its opening day. He told NewsX, “It should do around Rs 100 crore at the worldwide levelIn Tamil Nadu, the gross collection should be around Rs 30 crore. The figure will be at par with that of Jailer as the release pattern is similar. It has already beaten Indian 2 in advance sales alone and will be the highest opener of the year in Tamil Nadu.”
About GOAT
As per reports, the movie is based on the 2004 Moscow Metro Bombing. It focuses on the challenges faced by a spy agent named Gandhi after his retirement in the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS). The actor can be seen playing dual roles in the movie including Gandhi’s character and then his son. It also starred Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prashanth Thyagarajan, Prabhu Deva and Mohan in pivotal roles. The Tamil sci-fi action thriller is all set to release on Netflix after its theatrical run.
