Thalapathy Vijay's much-anticipated movie Jana Nayagan is all set to hit the theatres on January 9, 2026. The movie marks Vijay's last theatrical venture as he is all set to enter into politics. Jana Nayagan is already generating significant buzz for several reasons. Advance booking figures clearly indicate tremendous hype surrounding the film, with a large number of tickets already sold. Trade experts believe that the movie could revitalise the box office, which is currently facing a dearth of big-budget Tamil films in 2025.

Many industry stakeholders believe the film could enter the Rs 1,000 crore club, a feat no Tamil film has achieved so far. Currently, this record is held by S. Shankar's Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0, which grossed approximately Rs 691 crore worldwide.

In a conversation with Galatta Tamil, the Managing Director of Kamala Cinemas in Chennai expressed confidence that Jana Nayagan could reach this historic milestone. According to him, such expectations are common with every major release, but no Tamil film has managed to reach this level yet. However, he believes that this time the situation is different, and Jana Nayagan could achieve what no other film has before.

Theatre owners claimed that the film will run to full houses for at least the first 10 days. They said that while earlier films were considered successful if they ran for 100 days, the equation has changed with the increase in multiplexes and the number of screens. Nowadays, if a film runs to a packed house for even four consecutive days, it makes a significant profit.
