Manjummel Boys Lands In Trouble: Renowned music maestro and Rajya Sabha MP Ilaiyaraaja has issued a legal notice to the producers, namely Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony, citing copyright infringement. His legal team alleges unauthorized use of Ilaiyaraaja's iconic song 'Kanmani Anbodu' from Kamal Haasan's film 'Gunaa' in the film. Directed by Chidambaram, Manjummel Boys has emerged as one of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema in 2024, breaking several records along the way. The film has taken the Indian cinema scene by storm, garnering immense love and appreciation from both audiences and critics alike.
Ilaiyaraaja has alleged copyright infringement and has requested the producers to obtain proper permission from him to continue using the song in the film or to remove it altogether. The inclusion of 'Kanmani Anbodu Kaadhalan' at a pivotal moment in the film is significant. Guna Caves in Kodaikanal gained its prominence after being featured in Kamal Haasan's 'Gunaa' in 1990.
About Manjummel Boys
Based on a true incident from 2006, 'Manjummel Boys' revolves around a group of friends whose journey to Kodaikanal takes a dramatic turn when one of them falls into Guna Caves.
In the mentioned year, a group of friends from Manjummel embarked on a trip to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, where they ventured into Guna Caves, notorious for cases of people disappearing without a trace during exploration. During their exploration, one of the boys named Subhash reportedly fell into the cave, and despite efforts by the authorities, he remained untraceable. Subhash's friend Siju took matters into his own hands when authorities were unable to assist the boys. Siju bravely entered the perilous cave, located the injured Subhash, and successfully rescued him to safety.
Helmed and scripted by Chidambaram, the film features a stellar cast including Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman, Chandu Salimkumar, Shebin Benson, and Vishnu Reghu.
