For many years, it was widely believed that Aamir Khan had turned down the chance to star in the 1993 psychological thriller Darr, a film that eventually became a major breakthrough for Shah Rukh Khan. However, Aamir has now cleared the air, revealing that he never rejected the film. The actor reportedly shared that he was, in fact, removed from the project. Aamir explained that since Darr was a two-hero film, he had simply asked for a joint script narration with the other lead actor.

In a recent interview with Zoom Fan Club, Aamir said, “Darr ko maine na nahi haan bola tha. Mujhe nikala gaya tha,” meaning he didn’t say no to the film, but was taken off the project. “It’s my principle,” he said. “When there are two actors in a movie, the director should give a joint narration. Yashji (Yash Chopra) didn’t want to do that, so I was removed.” Aamir believed that joint narrations help create better collaboration and understanding between co-stars, which he sees as vital for multi-starrer films.

Meanwhile, he also shared a similar story from the time of Andaz Apna Apna movie, which also starred Salman Khan. He said Salman had cancelled the narration three times. “His secretary said Salman would hear it later and that I could listen to it now. I told them, ‘When Salman listens, I’ll listen.’” Eventually, Salman did show up, and they heard the script together.

Despite being dropped from the Darr movie, Aamir’s career wasn’t affected. The movie was eventually made with Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, and Juhi Chawla in key roles. It turned out to be a massive hit and even won a National Award. Shah Rukh’s performance as an obsessive lover became iconic, helping to shape his early film career.
