Rajkumar Hirani is a director with a 100% success rate — a filmmaker whose blockbusters not only resonate deeply with audiences but also strike the perfect balance between humour and heart. With the announcement of his upcoming biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, Aamir Khan is all set to collaborate with him once again.

After the historic success of 3 Idiots and PK, Aamir and Hirani are teaming up for the third time. Both films were celebrated for their sharp wit, emotional depth, and powerful storytelling — a signature style the duo is known for.

In a recent interview, when asked if humour would also find its place in the Phalke biopic, Aamir responded, “I think Raju and Abhijat (Joshi, writer) have a special leaning towards comedy — and so do I. All three of us really like humour, and I think that’s the genre Raju enjoys most: drama with humour. So this will probably fall into the same space.”

Filming for the project is slated to begin in October 2025. Aamir Khan will commence preparations soon after the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. VFX studios based in Los Angeles have already created AI-driven visual references to capture the era and period of the film. The script — which has been in development for the last four years — has been crafted by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj.

Aamir Khan is currently basking in the success of Sitaare Zameen Par. The film also stars Genelia D'Souza in lead role. It is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. The story revolves around Gulshan Arora, a suspended basketball coach played by Aamir Khan, who is assigned to train a team of intellectually challenged players as part of his community service. As Gulshan works with the team, he undergoes a transformative journey, learning to understand and appreciate their unique strengths and struggles.

The film, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, was announced in October 2023 and released on June 20, 2025, in cinemas exclusively, without any streaming service release. Principal photography took place in India over four months, wrapping up in June 2024, with locations including Mumbai, New Delhi, and Vadodara.
