Aamir Khan is one of the Bollywood actors known as Mr Perfectionist, for his versatile acting prowess. From delivering massive hit movies to ending up with box office failures like Thugs of Hindostan and Laal Singh Chaddha, despite massive budgets and star-studded casts. Aamir has experienced both highs and lows in his career. The actor, who is all set to return to big screens with Sitaare Zameen Par, revealed how he himself didn't like Thugs of Hindostan and also opened up about the creative differences involved.
Aamir Khan On Thugs Of Hindostan
In a chat with Zee Music Company, Aamir reflected on his 2018 Thugs of Hindostan, which was not made as expected. The actor said, “What happened with Thugs of Hindostan is that I myself didn’t like the film. It’s been a while now, and I have immense respect for Adi (Aditya Chopra) and Victor (Vijay Krishna Acharya). But sometimes there are creative differences.”
Aamir shared how he made repeated attempts to share his concerns with producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya but accepted their decision.
“I felt that structurally, we went wrong with the writing and I tried to tell them about it but they were confident that the film is good. I tried to convince them for around 8 months but ultimately, they are the director and producer so whatever they decision they took, I accepted it because I have to follow what they are saying," he stated.
Aamir admitted that he knew the film wouldn't work. He recalled a conversation with his then-wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao ahead of the release of Thugs of Hindostan.
The actor added, "A couple of weeks before the release, Kiran said to me, ‘You’re sleeping so peacefully these days, it’s the first time I’ve seen you like this before a release. Usually, you’re restless.’ And I told her, ‘I don’t feel anxious about this film because I know it’s not going to work. If I didn’t like it, how can I expect the audience to?’”
He admitted not being upset after it didn't perform well. “So when Thugs of Hindostan didn’t do well, I wasn’t upset. Because I didn’t enjoy it either. My taste and the audience’s taste are quite similar—there was no disconnect.”

Aamir Was Left Heartbroken On Laal Singh Chaddha's Failure
Aamir admitted that the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha deeply impacted him as he believed he made a good film. The actor in the same interview, confessed, “My heart broke with Laal Singh Chaddha, no doubt about it. I genuinely believed we made a good film. But clearly, we went wrong somewhere, because the film didn’t work.”
Talking about the reaction to Laal Singh Chaddha, he said, “If I look at the reactions, about 25% of people liked it—people who think like me. But 75% didn’t connect with it. The more we accept that, the better. That means our film didn’t resonate—it was weak.”
