Ajith Kumar Reacts To Thalapathy Vijay’s Karur Rally Stampede: ‘We Are All Responsible For It…’

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar shared his point of view on the stampede that happened at Thalapathy Vijay’s Karur political rally on September 27. The unfortunate incident took the lives of 41 people. Several celebrities from the industry expressed their grief about the stampede case. Over a month after the incident, Ajith said that as a society, people have become obsessed with gathering a crowd to show that there is a huge crowd. He mentioned that this kind of intention among people needs to end. He also compared people gathering at cricket matches versus film personalities’ events like screenings and political rallies. He also mentioned that Vijay is not the only one to be held blame for rather everyone is responsible for the incident.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Ajith Kumar said, “I'm not trying to put anybody down, but like I say, there's so much happening in Tamil Nadu today because of this stampede that happened. That individual (Vijay) alone is not responsible; we are all responsible for it, and I think even the media has a part to play in this. Today I think we have become a society that's so obsessed with gathering a crowd, to show your crowd. All this has to end.”

“I mean, you have a crowd that goes for a cricket match, you don't see all this happening there, do you? Why is it happening only in theatres? Why is it only happening with celebrities, film personalities? So, what happens? It projects the whole film industry, world over, in a bad light. I mean, even Hollywood actors or we don't wish this. We want that love and that's what we work hard for...There are ways you can express your love,” the actor added.

The Karur stampede happened at Velusamipuram in Karur during a public interaction event, which was attended by Thalapathy Vijay. In the stampede, 41 people were dead, including women and children were dead and 60 were injured.

Talking about Ajith Kumar’s work front, the actor had two big releases,Good Bad Ugly and Vidaamuyarchi, earlier this year. Both films had a successful run in theatres and achieved good numbers.
