Akshay Kumar is a name that is equivalent to Bollywood comedy, action, and patriotic roles.  The actor who is a celebrated name in the industry now didn't always have it easy. His journey to stardom is nothing short of a movie. His story of adversity and luck is his journey from a waiter to a superstar if not often talked about. Akshay Kumar was raised in Delhi and Mumbai after being born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia in Amritsar on September 9, 1967. He trained in Muay Thai and Taekwondo since he was interested in martial arts. For those who don't know, the actor had also worked as a waiter in Bangkok.

Akshay Kumar began teaching martial arts after returning to Mumbai from personal work. He received his first offer to model here. He had the opportunity to try his hand at acting after having trouble in the early phases of modeling. He had a minor part in 1987, but it didn't make him famous. He didn't receive the role, even after trying out for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar in 1992.

Akshay Kumar's Missed Flight Changed His Destiny

Akshay Kumar's destiny, however, had other ideas. He once missed an early flight that was scheduled to take him to Bengaluru for a fashion presentation. Dejected, he went home, but his mother urged him. On the same day, Akshay met Narendra, a makeup artist at Natraj Studio, who gave Pramod Chakravarty his photo. Soon after, Akshay was cast in the major role of Deedar. Coincidentally, the check for the movie arrived at the same time as his flight was delayed.

Akshay Kumar Became Bollywood's Khiladi Kumar

Akshay Kumar's debut film, Saugandh came out in 1991, but it was Khiladi (1992) that really made him famous. He went on to produce a number of blockbuster movies with the 'Khiladi' in the title and earned the nickname Bollywood's Khiladi Kumar.
