Ashutosh Guwarikar’s Lagaan proved to be one of the best movies of Aamir Khan’s career. The actor wanted to shoot the film in one go, and hence, hired Apoorva Lakhia as the assistant director, as he had worked in Hollywood. Being Aamir Khan’s first production, the actor wanted to set some strict rules so that everybody on the set would be disciplined. Apoorva Lakhia was the man in charge of this. He recently shed light on the workings behind the camera and mentioned that the first rule was to maintain punctuality on the sets. It was decided that everybody will be brought in a bus, and it won’t wait for anyone for more than 5 minutes.
Aporva Lakhia candidly recalled on the YouTube channel Cyrus Says how he left without the lead actor of the movie. He said, “I told them no cars, just one bus. Everyone travels in a bus, no one gets a car. Anyone who is late for the bus, the bus will not wait for them for more than five minutes. Aamir was late on the third day. I thank god Aamir was late on the third day.”

Further, he stated that actor Ronit Roy was giving him a difficult time and was not allowing the bus to start without Aamir Khan. “Ronit Roy was doing security. He refused to shut the door, and the entire bus was looking at me to see that what is he going to do now? Let’s see how he leaves Aamir behind,” he recalled and added, “I gave a kick to Ronit Roy and he fell outside the door. We started the bus and ran from there. The entire unit and cast was looking at me and I remember Yashpal Sharma said, ‘Kal Bombay bhai (Brother, you’ll be in Bombay tomorrow).’ So I said, ‘It’s okay if that is the situation, I’ll leave, at least people will remember me,” he mentioned.

He also revealed that since there was no other transport available, Aamir Khan reached the sets 90 minutes late and didn’t say anything to him. “He didn’t say anything to me. He wasn’t angry. That was his way of saying, ‘good.'” On the fifth day, actress Gracy Singh was also late and just like Aamir, she was also left behind.
