AR Murugadoss has demonstrated his directing skills in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil. The Bollywood remakes of his popular Tamil films were likewise well received. Thus, the pre-release excitement was strong when Murugadoss chose to make an original Hindi film instead of depending on a tested script. Salman Khan was the movie's star, and everyone was hoping for a box office hit. Sadly, Sikandar was a box office bust, drawing criticism from both reviewers and viewers.
AR Murugadoss has now spoken out about the lackluster reaction of the Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna picture and offered his thoughts on what could have gone wrong. Speaking about the movie at the launch of his next project, Madharaasi, the director revealed that he attributed the film's failure to his incapacity to comprehend Hindi.
AR Murugadoss said, "When we make films in our mother tongue, it gives us strength. We know what is happening here. Today there’s a trend going and suddenly the audience gets connected with that trend. When we shift language, we don’t know what the youngsters are enjoying in that language. All we need is a script to believe it."
Sikandar director added, "For once, I can take up Telugu films, but Hindi may not work for us because after we write the script, they translate into English. Then it is again translated in Hindi. We can only guess what they are saying, but we are exactly not sure about what is happening. When you make film in an unknown language and place, it feels like you are handicapped. It is like you don’t have hands. I strongly believe our strength depends on where and the culture we belong to."

About Sikandar
Sanjay Rajkot, the protagonist of Sikandar's story, upends the life of a corrupt politician. In addition to Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, and Sathyaraj, AR Murugadoss was the director of the action drama. The movie succeeded in making over Rd 100 crore at the box office and eventually made over Rs 200 crore globally, despite criticism for its direction and acting. But by Salman Khan's standards, the movie didn't meet expectations at the box office. The movie received negative reviews when it debuted on Netflix in May.
With a new movie that stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, AR Murugadoss has returned to his native Tamil film industry in an attempt to turn his fortunes. The next movie is called Madharaasi, and it is anticipated to hit theaters on September 5, 2025.
