Fresh allegations have emerged involving RM, the leader of the global sensation BTS, following a report from a Japanese news outlet. The claims suggest that the artist, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, was seen smoking in a non-smoking area during a recent visit to Tokyo.

BTS Leader RM Faces Allegations Of Smoking In Prohibited Area In Japan

According to the Japanese weekly publication Shukan Bunshun, the incident allegedly took place in the Shibuya district on April 22, 2026. The report claims that RM and a group of friends were observed smoking in a building corridor and other areas where smoking is strictly forbidden. The publication, which reportedly followed the group during their stay, claimed that RM was seen dropping a cigarette butt on the ground. A witness stated that the group remained at the venue for approximately three hours, leaving around 1 a.m.

Meanwhile, the report also mentioned that a security official eventually stepped in to intervene, noting, "A security personnel is said to have approached the group to provide a warning."

In Japan, public smoking is tightly regulated, with street smoking generally banned in favour of specific designated smoking rooms. As of now, neither RM nor his agency, HYBE, has released an official statement regarding the situation.

BTS Return With ARIRANG

The controversy comes at a busy time for the group, who recently completed their mandatory military service. BTS made a triumphant return to the music scene with their fifth full-length album, titled ARIRANG. The project serves as a tribute to their Korean heritage, inspired by the famous folk song that symbolises unity and reunion.

The 14-track album has already seen massive global success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It features collaborations with world-class producers such as Diplo and Ryan Tedder. To celebrate the launch, the group is currently on the Arirang World Tour, having recently performed at the Tokyo Dome on 17 and 18 April.

When And Where To Watch Run BTS 2.0?

In addition to their new music, fans are celebrating the comeback of the group's popular variety show, Run BTS 2.0. Often described by the ARMY fanbase as free therapy, the new season is set to launch on April 23, 2026. The show will be available on Weverse and YouTube, promising a mix of nostalgic games and team-building activities in a relaxed, casual setting.
