Kareena Kapoor vs Bipasha Basu: Back in 2001, Bollywood was buzzing about one of the most controversial catfights between Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu. The feud erupted when the movie Ajnabee, starring the actresses alongside Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol, was in production. The film marked the debut of Bipasha, while Kareena had already made her presence in the film industry after her acting debut with JP Dutta's Refugee in 2000. However, behind the scenes of the movie set, another intense thriller was unfolding, a cold war brewing between the two leading ladies of Ajnabee.

What started as a misunderstanding over a costume led to a heated confrontation, accusations and even a reportedly physical fight. What became the topic of the discussion was Kareena's alleged remark 'Kaali Billi' (black cat), which many perceived as a racial comment, targeting Bispasha's dusky skin tone.

Kareena And Bipasha's Kaali Billi Controversy

The fallout between the two began when Bipasha reportedly sought help from Kareena's designer, Vikram Phadnis, without informing her, which led to chaos on the Ajnabee film set over the stylist. Several reports stated that the situation allegedly escalated to the point where Kareena slapped Bipasha and made a derogatory remark, calling her 'Kaali Billi,' prompting Bipasha not to work with her again.

Bipasha later criticised Kareena's behaviour as 'childish' and claimed that the matter was overblown, as Kareena's issue was not with her but with the designer. In an old interview with Filmfare, the actress stated, "I think this is a case of making a mountain out of a molehill. There were never any problems with me. She had some problems with the designer. I don't know why I was pulled in. It was quite childish."

Kareena's Reaction To Feud With Bipasha

After the intense altercation, Kareena took a jibe at Bipasha in one of her interviews with Filmfare in 2002, claiming that the latter lacked confidence. She also dismissed Bipasha's statements about the use of 'uncharitable names' by her and called her claims 'a figment of her imagination'.

She said, "She (Bipasha Basu) just doesn’t seem to have any confidence in her own talent. In a four-page interview, she spoke about me for three pages. Why not talk about your work? I think her only claim to fame is that she fought with me during Ajnabee over dress designer Vikram Phadnis. She’s given statements that I called her uncharitable names. Now, that’s a figment of her imagination."

Kareena Never Denied Kaali Billi Remark

After a long time, Kareena appeared on Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat, where the host brought up the feud with Bipasha, repeating the kaali billi remark the actress had allegedly made. In response, Kareena did not deny the claim but brushed it off with humour, saying, “Toh main safed billi hoon."

Over time, the cold war between the two stars faded, both in headlines and between them. Kareena made the first move to end the feud by reportedly inviting Bipasha to her then-boyfriend Saif Ali Khan's birthday party in 2008. Their meeting led to the end of their long-standing public spat, and now Bollywood divas share a cordial equation with each other.
