Popular director Suparn Varma has carved a niche for himself on OTT and now he is all set to create magic on big screens too. He is now gearing up for a courtroom drama, which has been titled HAQ. It is set to feature Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in the lead roles. Suparn Varma’s courtroom drama is inspired by one of India’s most debated legal battles. As per a report by Pinkvilla, HAQ has drawn inspiration from the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of Shah Bano vs Ahmed Khan. A case that turned out to be the most talked about one of all time.
A source told the news outlet that the movie is set to focus on a controversial theme and showcase a story that blends real-life resonance with cinematic tension. Produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the movie marks Yami Gautam’s return to hard-hitting roles after her 2024 movie Article 370. HAQ will mark the first collaboration of Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi. The buzz suggests that the teaser has been finalsed and impressed the insiders. A Pinkvilla source told, “The teaser is powerful and impossible to ignore.” As per the report, HAQ is set to release on November 7, 2025. The makers are expected to release the teaser in the coming weeks.

In the movie, Emraan Hashmi is set to play the role of a sharp yet morally conflicted lawyer, who is caught between professional duty and personal conscience, while Yami Gautam is a woman who has been battling for justice for Bano for years, embodying resilience and determination.

HAQ also features Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain and Aseem Hattangady in key roles. The post-production of the movie is currently underway. Another insider told the portal, “This is not just entertainment. HAQ is going to leave people with questions that linger long after the credits roll.”

Suparn Varma is known for his work in Aatma, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Acid Factory, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, Karam and Zameen, to name a few.
