Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor starrer Raanjhanaa’s controversy has been gaining momentum with each passing day. Helmed by Aanand L Rai, the tragic romance story has a loyal fanbase as the movie not only gave an emotional rollercoaster ride, but also depicted the rawness and depth in the narrative that touched the hearts of many movie lovers. And now, with Raanjhanaa’s Tamil version Ambikapathy being released with a new AI-altered ending, several netizens, along with the original director of the movie, have expressed their disappointment.
Aanand L Rai and Dhanush have openly spoken against the production banner Eros International's decision to create an alternate happy ending with the help of artificial intelligence. Joining them, actor Farhan Akhtar has also voiced his opinion about the same. The ZNMD actor was recently spotted at the teaser launch event of his upcoming movie 120 Bahadur in Mumbai.

On being asked about the ongoing controversy, the actor-director made it very clear that he is loyal to the creator’s opinion. He told the reporters, “I will always stand with the creator of the film. And if the creator of the film was unhappy about his or her work being changed, I will always support the creator. So that’s where my loyalty lies. The rest, the finer print of what happened there, I am not privy to. But that’s all I can say about that.”
Ritesh Sidhwani, who co-owns Excel Entertainment with Farhan Akhtar, also added to the actor’s statement and said, “I agree with Farhan. I think AI is something we need to embrace and use in the most right way and effective way. And I have said this even before. There were times when, I am talking of earlier times, when we used to do research based on going to a library, reading a book, opening that. Then Google came into our lives and we started doing it in a different way. I think you need to use AI smartly."

Ritesh also explained that he hasn’t seen the movie, but he believed that if the maker, along with the people involved in the project are not consulted and don’t give their consent, then it should not be done.
For the unversed, the original movie showed a tragic end where Kundan (Dhanush’s character) died in hospital as Zoya (Sonam’s character) sat beside his body. In the newly generated version, fans get to see a happy ending where Kundan opened his eyes while trying to get up and sit on the stature, leaving his friends Bindiya and Murari emotional.
