Dil Chahta Hai is one such film that marked a turning point in Hindi cinema, with its narrative of friendship, heartbreak, and the bittersweet phase of growing up. It was also an eye-opener for its director, Farhan Akhtar. The movie, which was released in 2001, marked his directorial debut and featured a stellar cast including Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles alongside their love interests played by Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia. Farhan recalled how, 25 years ago, he had no idea how to produce films and simply took a chance.

Farhan has since directed several movies, including Lakshya, Don, Don 2 and others, but Dil Chahta Hai holds a special place for him. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actor-filmmaker reminisced about his directorial debut. He said, "They took a chance on a 25-year-old with a script and no idea of how to produce a film. It gave me this life."

Dil Chahta Hai, a romantic comedy, centres around the story of three close friends- Akash Malhotra, played by Aamir, Sameer, played by Saif and Siddarth, portrayed by Akshaye. They drift after college due to their different approaches towards relationships, but eventually find their way back to each other. Not only did the storyline resonate with audiences upon its release, but the songs captivated them and remain evergreen.

Meanwhile, Farhan is all set to return with his next directorial, Don 3, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The casting of the female lead has generated quite a buzz.

On the acting front, he is gearing up for his much-awaited film 120 Bahadur. The war drama is based on the Battle of Rezang La during the India-China war in 1962, where 120 Indian soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Battalion fought against Chinese troops. In the movie, Farhan plays the role of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati. Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios), the film is an Excel Entertainment production.
