Mom 2: Boney Kapoor, earlier this year, confirmed that he is working on a new project with his younger daughter Khushi Kapoor. The filmmaker revealed that Khushi is following in the footsteps of her late mother, Sridevi, and may lead Mom 2, a sequel to Sridevi’s 2017 National Award-winning crime thriller Mom. This announcement created mixed reactions online, with many feeling emotional about the legacy being continued. As per reports, Khushi began filming the sequel post-Diwali, and on her 25th birthday, unseen photos from the sets surfaced online, creating quite a stir on social media.
In the leaked photos, Khushi Kapoor can be seen dressed casually in a sweatshirt, while television actress Karishma Tanna appears in a white salwar kameez, looking elegant. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Mom 2 began filming last week in Mumbai, and around ten days of shooting have already been completed. The report revealed that Khushi will play a key role this time, and filming has been progressing smoothly. The report added, “While Mom was directed by Ravi Udyawar, the sequel is being helmed by Girish Kohli, who co-wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogues of the original. Boney Kapoor felt that since Girish understands the world of Mom deeply, he would do justice to the sequel.”

Meanwhile, as for the official announcement, insiders suggest that Boney Kapoor may unveil Mom 2 on his birthday, November 11, with a grand reveal. If confirmed, this will mark Khushi Kapoor’s fourth film after The Archies (2023), Loveyapa, and Nadaaniyaan. However, the leaked on-set photos sparked mixed reactions online. The images shared showed Karishma Tanna’s look closely resembling Sridevi’s character from the original film, leading to divided opinions. While some fans praised the idea of revisiting Mom, others criticised the move, saying the original should be left untouched.

On the other hand, social media reactions were swift and sharp. Several users expressed disappointment, questioning Khushi’s acting abilities and the decision to revive such a beloved classic. One user commented, “Khushi behen audience ko toh khush rehne do,” while another said, “They’re ruining the magic of Sridevi’s Mom.” Many felt that without Sridevi, the emotional impact of the film might not be the same. Released in 2017, Mom was Sridevi’s final and 300th film, co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna, Sajal Aly, and Adnan Siddiqui. The late actress was posthumously honoured with the National Film Award for Best Actress, making Mom 2 a highly emotional and delicate project for her fans and family alike.
