Popular South Indian actress Nayanthara, often called the ‘Lady Superstar’, has always kept her personal life private. But last year, she gave fans a special glimpse into her journey through the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Dreams. Released on November 18, 2024, the documentary showed unseen moments from her personal life, career struggles, and achievements. While many fans loved it, the documentary has also faced its fair share of controversy.
Soon after the documentary came out, actor Dhanush criticised the makers for using a clip from his movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which he had produced, without his permission. His complaint drew a lot of attention and raised concerns about copyright usage in such movies. Now, months later, the documentary has again found itself in legal trouble. According to a report in Cinema Express, the producers of Nayanthara: Beyond The Dreams have received a legal notice from AP International, who hold the rights to the 2005 film Chandramukhi. The movie, which starred Nayanthara and Rajinikanth, is one of the most well-known Tamil movies of its time.
AP International claims that scenes from Chandramukhi were included in the documentary without their permission. They also said that they had sent earlier notices asking the team to remove the footage, but the requests were ignored. Because of this, they are now demanding Rs. 5 crore as compensation for copyright infringement.

In a recent court ruling, Tarc Studios and Netflix—the makers and streaming platform of the documentary—have been ordered to remove all Chandramukhi footage from the documentary. The court has also asked them to share the total earnings made from the documentary’s release. As of now, Nayanthara and the makers of the documentary have not made any public statement about the issue. Fans are waiting to see how the actress responds to this legal trouble.
