Taapsee Pannu spoke out against the film industry's fixation on the cleavages and midriffs of female actors. The actor stated that her previous comments regarding the South cinema industry's obsession with midriffs and Bollywood's obsession with cleavage were taken out of context. The Assi actor went on to say that a particular glance, whether it be the cleavage or the belly, is the problem. She also discussed why, early in her career, she decided against accepting such roles.
Taapsee Pannu revealed in an interview with Galatta Plus that her comment was misconstrued in a podcast. She said that she never distinguished between the South's obsession with midriffs and Hindi's obsession with cleavage. She also mentioned how, in the South, she was asked to pad her bras and expose her stomach; however, in Bollywood, she was never asked to do so. This was primarily because she didn't accept glamorous roles in Hindi films.
Taapsee Pannu said, "I don’t know what the obsession is, but let’s own that there’s an obsession, whether in Hindi or in the South. Which part of yours is highlighted? That’s not the point. The point is, there’s an obsession. It was obviously awkward for the director as well because they had to convey this to me. And how do you do that when the set hardly has any women, right? So, you have to convey it indirectly. When she comes back from the van, the director obviously has to check whether it works or not. So, this whole process is slightly awkward."

Additionally, Taapsee Pannu defended acting in those roles because she was unfamiliar with the field and believed that was standard procedure. According to her, a director is like a ship's captain, and an actor must follow the captain's direction until it clearly deviates. She said that at the time, she thought it was expected of her to play these roles like other heroines.
Taapsee Pannu explained that she would've have constantly pondered 'what if' if she hadn't taken up those parts, but she doesn't look back with regret.
