War 2 was one of the year's most anticipated movies, but the hype has taken an unexpected turn. An insider from Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe has publicly voiced unhappiness, despite the conflicting opinions from critics and varied responses from the public. Pathaan assistant director, Rajvir Ashar, expressed his annoyance on Instagram, referring to Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR starrer as the 'weakest film' in the series and a 'heartbreaking experience.'
War 2 lacked emotional depth, Rajvir Ashar noted. The AD mentioned that the movie was unable to sustain engagement, particularly in the second half. Sharing the review on Instagram, he wrote, "This one was just a heartbreaking experience for me. I was rooting for this film, and all it did was upset me to no degree! A mid first half is followed by a deplorable and overlong second."
He further added, "Neither did it have enough highs nor was it successful in resonating with me emotionally! The most ‘anticipated’ day turned out to be a ‘colossal’ disappointment. Weakest film of the universe (YRF Spy Universe)!"

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's Ek Tha Tiger was the first in the YRF Spy Universe. It was followed by Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and now War 2. Alpha, which stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, and Bobby Deol and was directed by Shiv Rawail, will be released under the same franchise.
War 2 is the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe and the follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster War. Along with Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana, Jr. NTR makes his Bollywood debut in the movie, and Hrithik returns to his role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal. In spite of the criticism, the movie made over Rs 200 crore globally in three days and Rs 142 crore in India
