Zubeen Garg Funeral: The popular Assamese singer, known for the Bollywood hit song Ya Ali, has been cremated with full state honours and 21-gun salute in Kamarkuchi NC village. The late star’s younger sister Palme Borthakur, along with Arun Garg and Rahul Gautam Sarma, lit the pyre and completed the last rites. After paying her last tribute to her husband, Garima Saikia can be seen breaking down with folded hands.

Zubeen Garg's thousands of fans gathered outside the cremation ground to bid adiue to their idol. Apart from Garg's close associate, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, were also present during the last rites.

The singer's mortal remains  were kept at the Bhogesawar Baruah Sports Complex for his fans and well-wishers to pay their tributes before his funeral happened. Garg's second post-mortem was conducted in Guwahati in presence of AIIMS doctors. The Assam governement had already announced a three day state mourning in the wake of the demise of Zubeen Garg. The government also stated that no entertainment, ceremoninal program or public celebration will be held during this time. 

The 52 year old passed away in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 19. He succumbed to injures after he was drowned. After his death, his body was flown to Delhi for post-mortem and later taken to Assam on a commercial flight that landed in Guwahati on September 21, where the another medical examination happened. Zubeen Garg was in Singapore for the Northeast India Festival. His sudden demise has created a shockwave in the music industry and his admirers.

Zubeen Garg was widely known for his songs like Ya Ali, Chokher Jole, Dil Tu Hi Bataa, Khuda Jaane, to his credit. With his career spanning over three decades, the singer has lent his voice to many Assamese, Hindi, Bengali and other Indian language songs. He was a multi-instrumentalist and used to play 12 instruments, which included anandalahari, dhol, dotara, drums, guitar, harmonica, harmonium, mandolin, keyboard, tabla and various percussion instruments.
