Zubeen Garg's tragic death on September 19, 2025, has sent shockwaves across the country. He passed away following a swimming accident in Singapore. The singer's family and fans have been devastated ever since the news of his passing broke. Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the Assamese singer died while swimming without a life jacket, despite initial reports stating it was a scuba diving mishap. On Monday, the Assam CM announced that another post-mortem of legendary singer Zubeen Garg's body would be conducted in Guwahati on Tuesday.

During a press conference, the Assam Chief Minister addressed the media and said the second autopsy of the singer will be carried out at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) tomorrow, Tuesday morning, in the presence of the AIIMS team. He also revealed that the decision was taken after public demand for a transparent investigation and following Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita's discussion with Garg's wife, Garima Saikia Garg.

He said, as quoted by ANI, "People have demanded a post-mortem of Zubeen Garg's body in Assam as well. While the post-mortem was done in Singapore, since this morning, people have been demanding that another post-mortem be conducted here in Assam. Pabitra Margherita (Union MoS) discussed this with Zubeen Garg's wife, Garima Saikia Garg."

Sarma added, "Tomorrow morning, the autopsy of Zubeen Garg will be conducted at Gauhati Medical College Hospital, and AIIMS doctors will be present. The procedure will take about 1 to 1.5 hours. After the completion of the autopsy, Zubeen Garg's remains will be brought back to Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex."

After Zubeen Garg's death certificate listed drowning as the cause of death, the Assam CM stated that the government has requested the post-mortem report from the Commission. He also clarified that the death certificate and the post-mortem report are not the same during media interaction.

Sarma said, "The Singapore High Commission sent the death certificate of Zubeen Garg, which mentioned that the cause of death was drowning. But this is not the post-mortem report. The post-mortem report is separate, and the death certificate is different. We will send the documents to the CID.
