Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer is touted as one of the highly-anticipated flicks of the year 2023. The upcoming American biographical film 'Oppenheimer' stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who is known as the "father of the atomic bomb" for his work on the Manhattan Project, which produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II.
As the film is all set to screen in theatres on July 21, 2023, Christopher Nolan weighed in on the issue of Artificial Intelligence in the film industry. During the conference, Nolan was asked about his opinions on AI debate. He said, “Algorithms applied to AI are a terrifying possibility. They’ll be in charge of nuclear weapons. To say that is a separate entity from the person wielding, programming, putting that AI to use, then we’re doomed. It has to be about accountability. We have to hold people accountable for what they do with the tools that they have.”
The director’s remarks came at a time when SAG-AFTRA called for a strike to join WGA members on the picket lines.
About 'Oppenheimer'
The film is based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin about J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons on the Manhattan Project. The movie also highlights the race against time that the Americans faced to complete their bomb before Nazi Germany could finish building theirs.
