What Is Paradha All About?
The comedy movie is set against the backdrop of a remote village, where women must remain veiled to ward off a curse. But a girl’s devout commitment to tradition is shattered after an enigmatic event, leaving her reputation in question. She is determined to clear her name, a courageous girl who left her village, embarks on a journey to the Himalaya. She is not alone in the journey but her aunt also accompanies her to fight against the patriarchal battles in their own. Paradha features Anupama Parameswaran, Darshana Rajendran, Sangeetha Krish, Rag Mayur and Ananya Mohan in key roles. It has been directed by Praveen Kandregula and produced by Vijay Donkada, Sridhar Makkuva, Sreenivasulu PV.
While talking about how director Praveen Kandregula approached Paradha, Anupama Parameswaran told Hindu, “He said this to me and Darshana a few days ago and we flipped. Until then, we thought of it as travel-meets-folklore. I’m not sure if these comparisons will make sense until audiences watch the film. It has elements of an arthouse film and a commercial masala entertainer.”
Talking about female friendship on the sets, the actress added, “The chemistry was instant; we don’t know how it happened. That day, we knew the film would come together well. It’s rare for a film to explore female bonding beyond the surface.” In the same interview, she said, “I fell ill during the Manali schedule, and months later, we had to resume in Dharamshala as the weather hadn’t been on our side. It’s been quite a journey.”
