Thug Life OTT Release Update: Kamal Haasan and Trisha Krishnan starrer Tamil movie was one of the anticipated films of this year. It hit the silver screens on June 5 with higher expectations of earning good box office numbers. However, Thug Life bombed at the box office, earning Rs 48 crore in India. Despite its pan-India release, Kamal Haasan’s movie could not sustain at the ticket windows. Now, the makers are reportedly planning to release it on OTT. Here is what we know.

As per a report by Pinkvilla, Thug Life is expected to release on the OTT platform Netflix in four weeks since its theatrical debut. The report further suggested that the film had an initial OTT value of Rs 130 before its release. But after much negotiation, Thug life has locked its OTT deal worth Rs 110 crore. A source told the portal, “Thug Life will premiere on Netflix in just 4 weeks. The negotiations were made after Netflix decided to reduce the OTT price of Thug Life. The film was valued at Rs 130 crore prior to the release, and Netflix was looking to renegotiate the price at Rs 90 crore after the dismissal run. But the parties eventually settled down at Rs 110 crore for the digital right, with a reduced OTT window of 4 weeks.”

“There’s a norm in North India to strictly follow a 8-week window. As Thug Life time has breached the guidelines, the National Multiplex Chains have imposed a fine on the producers. It’s a nominal amount, where the producers and distributors of Thug Life have to forgo their theatrical share from Hindi. Incidentally, the amount comes to Rs 25 lakh,” the source added.

Thug Life is about a gangster who adopts a boy after saving him in a war. After years, he survives an assassination attempt. After which, he started suspecting the adopted boy which led to conflict. The movie features Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Abhirami Gopikumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Rohit Saraf and Joju George in key roles. It has been directed by Mani Ratnam.
