Rajinikanth was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on the evening of September 30 due to a swelling in the main blood vessel leaving his heart, known as the aorta. On October 1, 2024, fans of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth received an update on his health following his recent hospitalization.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the press statement released by the hospital stated that Rajinikanth underwent a non-surgical procedure called endovascular repair, in which a stent was placed in the aorta to seal off the swelling. The procedure was performed by senior interventional cardiologist Dr Sai Satish and was successful, with Rajinikanth now stable and recovering well. The hospital indicated that he is expected to be discharged in two days.
Tamil Nadu's Health Minister, Ma Subramanian, clarified that Rajinikanth's hospitalization was for a routine check-up, noting that he was initially scheduled to visit the hospital in the morning but was admitted the night before. He reassured fans that the actor is in good health and will return home shortly. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin also expressed his wishes for a swift recovery on social media.

Despite the health scare, Rajinikanth remains active in his career. He recently attended the audio and preview launch of his upcoming film Vettaiyan, directed by T.J. Gnanavel, which is set to release on October 10. This film marks his 170th project and features a stellar cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Manju Warrier.
Additionally, Rajinikanth is currently working on Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film has garnered attention for its stylish announcement video and the catchy song D.I.S.C.O. With a promising ensemble cast, including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan and Sathyaraj, Coolie is expected to hit theatres next year.
