Veteran actor Raj Kapoor was one of the finest actors in the Indian film industry. His grandson, Ranbir Kapoor, is following in his grandfather's footsteps and carrying forward the legacy as an actor. At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Ranbir recollected the memories of the famous Holi parties hosted by his grandfather for the entire entertainment industry at RK Studios.
Ranbir in a candid conversation with filmmaker Rahul Rawail, revealed how the memory of those parties is a frightening one for him. He said, “I was really young, so it was a very scary environment for me. Everyone was coloured in black and many other colours, sabko aise truck mai faika jaaraha hai (everyone was being thrown into trucks). You might have better memories, I guess," he said while pointing out to the moderator. To which, Rahul replied, “You were right about that, sab kaale neele peele hote the (Everyone used to be drained in different colours). It used to be a day celebration."
After his response, Ranbir added, “What I have heard is that not just the actors and actresses, it was everybody in the film industry. Even the people working in camera, production, everybody used to come and celebrate together."
Rahul further shared the reason why those parties discontinued, he stated, “Gradually, why those parties stopped was because it became too much of a crowd. It was unmanageable because anyone used to just walk in.”
The parties at RK Studios were always the talk of the town for their lavish celebrations. Whether it was a Diwali party or Holi, many superstars would attend the bash with great enthusiasm. From Amitabh Bachchan, Nargis to Manna Dey, many celebrities used to attend the party.
