'The Hunt For Veerappan' is an upcoming thriller documentary series inspired by real life events gearing up for its release on Netflix from August 4. The series revolves around the notorious Tamil Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, who shook the entire Southern India with his heinous crimes.

The series will cover his entire life and his ghastly acts including the killings of 184 people and over 200 elephants. The director of 'The Hunt For Veerappan' also made a similar film on the late smuggler titled 'Operation Cocoon' which was conceived to eliminate Veerappan from the dense forests of Karnataka.

The film went on to receive good acclaim wherein the performance by Shiva Rajkumar was critically hailed. The film did a good run at the box office. However, the smuggling of sandalwood is a common activity noted in the Southern states, wherein Allu Arjun starrer blockbuster 'Pushpa' film series also has a similar backdrop.

Netflix has become the leading streaming platform with several original crime-thriller documentaries in its collection including 'House of Burari', 'Murder In A Courtroom', and 'The Butcher Of Delhi' which went on to collect immense buzz and appreciation.

Thus, the latest version of the Veerappan crime story will cover the rise and fall of Veerappan's life as a bandit, whose bloody reign sparked a 20-year-long manhunt in Southern India creating daunting times for the locals and disappointing yet successful final result for the police.
