JE Entertainment Desk: 'The Idol' has become the topic of discussion on the internet ever since its announcement due to the highly sexualised portrayal of the characters. As the two episodes of 'The Idol' are out, netizens expressed their disappointment with the poor portrayal of female characters, mental health and disturbing s*x scenes.

The show stars Abel Tesfaye aka The Weekend and Lily-Rose Depp in the lead role and BLACKPINK member Jennie is seen in a pivotal role, marking her acting debut. The second episode featured some explicit scenes and dialogues and netizens called out the makers of 'The Idol' for focusing on the disturbing scenes instead of characters.

'The Idol' revolves around a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who enters into a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol. It is set against the backdrop of the music industry.

Jennie, who has made her acting and Cannes debut with 'The Idol', said, "It’s overwhelming, but I’m grateful and thankful. All of those things at the same time. Especially as it’s the first step in my acting career, I was honoured to be able to come.”

She added, “It was an opportunity to just be myself and be brave. I didn’t really train for it, or prep anything...Sam wanted me to just be myself.”

Meanwhile, talking about 'The Idol, Lily-Rose Depp said, "I can’t put into words how I’m feeling right now! This show and the people I was lucky enough to make it with mean everything to me. Shooting it was the most special experience I’ve ever had, and I thank my lucky stars every day for the most beautiful little family we all built together. My idol fam you know who you are – I love you guys so much."

She added, "Sam and Abel, thank you for letting me be your Jocelyn. I’m still pinching myself that you picked me. Thank you for making my dreams come true, I love you both forever."

The series also stars Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria.
