A petition called 'Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act' is making the rounds online following the uproar surrounding the South Korean actor.

What Is Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act?

Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act, which has been signed by more than 50,000 people to far, calls on South Korean lawmakers to raise the consent age from the current 16 to 19 years old. In order to prevent statutory rape, the petition calls for stricter legislation. The petition calls for harsher punishments to be applied to the violators.

For the unversed, South Koreans currently reach adulthood at the age of 19. However, the legal age of consent is 16 in the nation. According to the Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act, anyone who has sex with a minor between the ages of 13 and 16 or performs intimate activities with someone younger than 13 is committing rape.
